Open Water Diver
Why Open Water Diver?
As a certified PADI Open Water Diver, the most widely recognized and
respected rating in the world, you have the freedom to dive with a buddy
independent of a professional. If you already tried a PADI Discover Scuba Diving
experience or are PADI Scuba Diver certified, check with your instructor to see
how credit from these courses may apply to the open water program.
What do I need to start?
Virtually anyone who is in good health, reasonably fit, and comfortable in the water can earn a PADI Open Water Diver or Jr. Open Water Diver certification. The minimum age for certification is 10 years of age.
You will need to provide your own mask, snorkel, fins, and boots for the first pool session.
Wetsuits, regulators, weights, BC’s, and air tanks are provided.
If you have your own gear you are encouraged to use it provided
that it has been properly maintained, serviced, and is in good working order.
What will I do?
Throughout the course, you’ll learn fundamentals of scuba diving related to dive equipment and techniques. You earn this rating by completing five pool dives, completing PADI Open Water eLEarning, completing 5 pool dives and by making four open water dives. The dives are typically conducted in the Florida Springs but other options are available. Talk to your instructor or dive shop manager for details.
How long will it take?
PADI programs are performance based. You proceed as you demonstrate mastery of the course skills. This allows you to work at a pace that is comfortable for you. Classes are typically conducted over the course of 2 consecutive weekends but other scheduling options may be available upon request.
